I graduated from California College of Arts, with a BFA in Fine Art Photography in 1982. I've been a professional photographer ever since, and my artistic endeavors are very different from my professional work. Rather than large format cameras, studio lights, and manipulating the photographs with Photoshop, I use a point and shoot camera, or even my Iphone, in order to document a moment in a more unplanned and spontaneous way.
My Statement of purpose
My interest in photography as an art form is in its ability to document the commonplace, often-overlooked beauty of our surroundings. I want my photos to have a documentary snapshot feel, although I am still striving for an appealing play of composition, color and light.
In previous bodies of work I treated the photos with encaustic wax. More recently, I have turned to textured vellum in order to emphasize the mundane subject matter, while adding another layer of interest.
